Hello

Dads, moms, brothers, sisters, and friends say goodbye to loved ones every day before going to work. Some of them never return home due to a workplace homicide. Crisis Care Network responds to these tragedies nearly every day and has dedicated this issue of PracticePoints to prevention and response to workplace violence.

Please note:

  • The recent Athena Research Corporation's Summary and Interpretation of the FBI's Uniform Crime Report, 2005. I found the sections detailing the links between murder and other felonies and the robbery data specific to select retail industries particularly interesting.
  • The article by long time friend of CCN, Paul Viollis entitled " Workplace Violence Prevention During At-Risk Terminations." Dr. Viollis serves as CEO of Risk Control Strategies  (www.riskcontrolstrategies.com) and is a renowned expert in workplace security, counter terrorism threat assessment, workplace violence, private client security, police training, and domestic violence.
  • Last month I spoke at the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) annual conference in Las Vegas and shared the podium with Sean Hader, Director of Training and Loss Prevention for Southwest GA Oil, Inc. His presentation summarized the training provided to employees regarding how to respond during and immediately following robberies. See the article below for a link to that document.
  • Employers often have questions regarding what actually happens when the critical incident response Specialist arrives on scene. The Case Study uses brief video clips to demonstrate a workplace violence scenario and three responses addressing employer goals.
  • Please visit the Forums section of CrisisCoach to ask questions, share resources, and state your opinions. We don't have to do this work alone.

Knowledge is power. May we partner in that power to keep the workplace a bit safer.

Workplace Violence Case Study Videos
Following workplace tragedies, organizational and individual recovery is facilitated when the response positions leadership favorably, normalizes reactions to the event, and transitions people and workgroups back to either adaptive functioning or an appropriate level of care. This video case study demonstrates efforts toward these objectives. To view the videos click here videos . (Attention: the Workplace Violence Incident depicts a re-enactment of a shooting. Workplace Violence Prevention During At-Risk Terminations By Dr. Paul Viollis
